The use of high vacuum pumps in coating applications is essential for creating a controlled, clean, and efficient environment.
These pumps play a crucial role in achieving uniform coatings, improving adhesion, and minimising the impact of contaminants on the coating process.
Diffusion Pumps
An oil diffusion pump operates by vaporising a silicone oil in its base. The resulting vapour is directed through a nozzle assembly,
creating a molecular drag that propels gas molecules towards the exhaust.
This continuous pumping action achieves a high vacuum within the chamber. The vapour then undergoes condensation at the top of the pump,
where it returns to liquid form and is recirculated for vaporisation, allowing the pump to sustain the vacuum.
Oil diffusion pumps are widely used for their effectiveness in achieving and maintaining high vacuum levels in applications such as vacuum coating and electron microscopy
As with all mechanical assemblies, regular maintenance by skilled technicians using high quality parts will ensure optimal performance,
longevity and reduced cost of ownership.
